LOS ANGELES – CEVA Logistics, a global leader in third-party logistics, has announced the grand opening of its cutting-edge transload facility in Los Angeles. This 135,000-square-foot facility strategically located near the Port of Long Beach and the Port of Los Angeles marks a significant advancement in the world of logistics.
The Los Angeles Transload Facility introduces the innovative concept of a cross-belt sortation device, capable of sorting an impressive 10,000 parcels per hour based on predetermined variables like size, color, or preferred carrier. This state-of-the-art facility caters to a wide range of industries, including automotive, consumer retail, and technology, and has been designed with an emphasis on efficiency and velocity.
CEVA Logistics is at the forefront of innovation and technology solutions in the logistics industry. The company is set to utilize Boston Dynamics’ state-of-the-art Stretch robots, a revolutionary addition that will enable the unloading of hundreds of boxes per hour. These autonomous robots operate continuously, enhancing efficiency and eliminating the safety concerns associated with manual labor in the unloading process. Additionally, Boston Dynamics’ Spot robot will be deployed for security purposes, patrolling the site.
CEVA Logistics is also partnering with One Network to implement yard and warehouse management systems, ensuring end-to-end visibility for its customers.
During its inaugural year of operation, CEVA anticipates processing a remarkable 26,000 floor-loaded containers and plans to double its capacity within three years. The company’s commitment to environmental sustainability is also evident at this facility, with plans for rooftop solar panels and electric trucks powered by renewable energy sources set to be operational by January 2024.
In addition to the impressive technology and capacity of the transload facility, CEVA Logistics offers supply chain customers access to its drayage fleet and dedicated container chassis to expedite the movement of goods from the port to the warehouse. These offerings are expected to mitigate transportation delays and resource bottlenecks. With 50 dock doors and parking for 205 trailers, the site has been designed with the utmost consideration for logistical efficiency.
Ashfaque Chowdhury, Managing Director for North America at CEVA Logistics, expressed the company’s commitment to expanding its services in North America, stating, “The addition of our Los Angeles transload facility demonstrates CEVA’s ongoing commitment to expanding our services in North America. The new site builds on our robust network of warehouses across the continent, giving our customers more control and flexibility over their supply chains.”
Kevin Blankespoor, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Warehouse Robotics at Boston Dynamics, commended the collaboration, saying, “We’re excited to deploy our robots at CEVA’s new facility. Stretch is designed to safely and rapidly unload containers, which can be a difficult task to perform manually based on the height and weight of boxes, as well as the often-high temperatures found inside containers. Stretch can reach boxes up to 50 pounds in weight, its vision system enables it to adapt to different stacking configurations, and it does not require any pre-programming. The robots are ready to go to work as soon as they arrive.”
