Love’s Travel Stops received $4.8 Million Federal Funding for Expansion of Electric Vehicle Charging Network in Pennsylvania and Colorado

Love’s Travel Stops, a trusted name in travel and fueling, has been granted a substantial $4.8 million in federal funding to expand its electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. In collaboration with Trillium Energy Solutions, a member of the Love’s Family of Companies specializing in clean fueling stations, this investment is set to transform the EV landscape in Pennsylvania and Colorado. Love’s and Trillium have secured this historic opportunity through the Federal Highway Administration’s National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program, aligning with the national push towards widespread EV adoption.

This funding will enable Love’s to install EV charging stations at eight locations across these two states, bolstering the accessibility and reliability of EV charging for travelers. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has allocated $2.6 million for EV charger installations at four existing locations in Pennsylvania, while the Colorado Energy Office (CEO) and Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will contribute $2.2 million for charging projects in Colorado.

Ryan Erickson, VP of Trillium Energy Solutions, highlights the pivotal role that travel stops and truck stops play in the EV charging infrastructure expansion, citing their existing footprint and comprehensive services as valuable assets.

Kim Okafor, general manager of zero emission for Trillium Energy Solutions, emphasizes the importance of on-site support and available space for successful EV infrastructure planning. With over 640 nationwide locations, Love’s Travel Stops is uniquely positioned to support the rollout of NEVI projects across various states.

This initiative is part of the broader NEVI program, established by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), which aims to invest $5 billion over five years to deploy fast DC EV chargers along highway corridors. The program’s ultimate goal is to create a nationwide network of EV chargers, ensuring that EV drivers can confidently travel longer distances with access to safe and reliable charging options.

Love’s Travel Stops, a family-owned business since 1964, intends to significantly expand its EV charging presence, increasing from 20 locations to hundreds in the coming years, further contributing to the EV revolution.
